About Us

Redwood Coast Democrats was founded in 2006 as Democrats United for Progress. In 2015, the club voted to rename itself in order to better define the area it represents. The club is registered as a Federal PAC and is thereby eligible to donate to candidates and causes.     

OUR MISSION

We, the Redwood Coast Democrats, are dedicated to the spread of the ideals of freedom by offering hope to our community for a better life in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties and in our state and our nation, through leadership, education, creative ideas, progressive action and local and national activism.

MEMBERSHIP

We are a group of active local community members with strong beliefs in democratic principles, open to registered Democrats and youth members from Northern Sonoma County and Southern Mendocino County including the communities of Anchor Bay, Annapolis, Cazadero, Elk, Gualala, Irish Beach, Kashia, Manchester, Point Arena, The Sea Ranch and Timber Cove.

Redwood Coast Democrats is affiliated with the Medocino County Democratic Central Committee, the Sonoma County Democratic Party and with the California Democratic Party.

RECENT accomplishments

Redwood Coast Democrats is dedicated to supporting progressive ideals at the local, county, state and national levels. We are proud to have been on the winning side of many issues, including those below.

Due to Covid-19, we staged a Virtual Barn Party in 2020 and raised over $14,000 for donations to candidates and causes.

Each year, at our annual barn party, we present the "invaluables" award to deserving local citizens and activists.

For her herculean efforts to create and maintain the independent/public radio station KGUA, providing timely and accurate information to Mendonoma residents, and for her work with Native American peoples.

For bringing the Blue Notes postcarding project to the Redwood Coast Democrats and to our communities. With help from her husband, Tad, Maureen created and continues to manage a system that has enabled several hundred people to write tens of thousands of postcards targeting voter registration, political candidates and get out the vote efforts in critical districts across the country.

Redwood Coast Democrats sponsors several events each year, including Town Halls, forums, lunches and dinners and our Annual Barn Party. This past year, due to Covid-19, our events have been virtual and will continue to be so until it is safe to gather once again.
